Project Overview

How we redesigned Unity’s website to showcase their community support services with improved accessibility, user engagement, and internal management capabilities across Test Valley.

Project Brief

Unity is a non-profit incorporated charity supported by Test Valley Borough Council and Hampshire County Council, dedicated to providing comprehensive community support services across Test Valley.

Unity approached us with the goal of redesigning their website to better showcase their varied services and improve accessibility for all community members. As a community-focused organisation, Unity offers a wide range of services including information and signposting, social prescribing, home support, and numerous other vital community programmes.

The charity needed a modern, user-friendly platform that would allow their internal team to manage content independently while meeting strict accessibility standards and enhancing community engagement through improved functionality and user experience.

Our Approach

We developed a comprehensive website redesign strategy focused on Unity’s dual needs: presenting their services clearly to community members while empowering their internal team with robust management tools.

Our approach centred on creating distinct branding for each service area under Unity’s cohesive brand identity, implementing unique colour schemes that help users navigate between different departments while maintaining brand consistency.

Accessibility was a cornerstone of our design process, ensuring the website meets WCAG standards with proper colour contrast, screen reader support, and inclusive design practices. We implemented flexible drag-and-drop content blocks, allowing Unity’s team to easily update and manage the website without external support.

Key features of the website included a mobility hire shop with booking system, appointment scheduling, volunteer opportunity listings, and a self-managed community directory with admin approval workflows.

The Result

The redesigned Unity website has delivered significant improvements in both search performance and user engagement. Organic search performance showed remarkable growth with clicks increasing by 71.8% and impressions rising by 141%, while the average search position improved dramatically from 30.7 to 18.5, demonstrating enhanced visibility for Unity’s services across Test Valley.

User engagement metrics exceeded expectations across all channels, with page views increasing by 100.24% and average engagement time rising by 87.79%. The engagement rate improved by 23.27% while the bounce rate decreased by 27.41%, indicating that users are finding the information they need more effectively and engaging more deeply with Unity’s services and resources.
