Southern Hospice Group

Website Design

Project Overview

We designed and launched a new website establishing Southern Hospice Group’s unified brand while facilitating donations, supporting recruitment, and effectively connecting users with specialised care services across Sussex and South East Hampshire.

Project Brief

Southern Hospice Group is a hospice charity formed from the merger of three established hospices: St Barnabas House in Worthing, Martlets in Hove, and Chestnut Tree House. Together, they provide expert palliative care and support for children, young people, and adults with life-limiting conditions across Sussex and South East Hampshire, serving families during their most challenging times.

Southern Hospice Group needed a new website that would establish their unified brand identity, while maintaining connections to their individual hospice services.

Working closely together, we identified five key objectives:

  • Establishing the SHG brand and explaining its relationship with the individual hospices.
  • Providing essential organisational information, including annual reports and governance details
  • Signposting users to relevant hospice websites for patient care and support
  • Supporting recruitment and volunteering efforts
  • Facilitating donations to both individual hospices and the group as a whole

Our Approach

We collaborated closely with Southern Hospice Group to create a website that would honor their compassionate mission while meeting the highest accessibility standards. Our approach centred on AAA accessibility compliance, mobile-first responsive design, and intuitive navigation that would serve users looking to get involved with the charity group.

Together, we developed a clean, accessible design, featuring dynamic content sections and visual storytelling elements that communicate the warmth and professionalism of hospice care.

We implemented structured pages to house policies and reports in an engaging format, ensuring that essential information was easily accessible to healthcare professionals and supporters, while representing the dignity and compassion central to hospice care.

The Result

The website launch in June 2025 was immediately successful, demonstrating strong user engagement and meaningful interaction with Southern Hospice Group’s services. In just the first three months, the site generated 1,25K clicks from 20.5K impressions, establishing the hospice group as a reputable brand in the search engine results pages.

User engagement metrics exceeded expectations with 4,380 page views and a strong average engagement time, indicating that visitors found the content valuable and accessible, supporting users in finding key information and avenues to get involved with the group and its individual hospices.

The website successfully drove meaningful actions with a significant number of users driven to the donation page and downloading important documents, while the careers pages generated significant interest with over 140 clicks to the “Work with us” and volunteering pages from the Google search results alone.

Lastly, looking at only one month, over 80 users were successfully referred from the Southern Hospice Group website to individual hospice sites, demonstrating effective signposting to specialised care services.

  • Unified brand successfully established with strong engagement and meaningful donation activity
  • Effective signposting to individual hospices driving referrals to specialised care services
  • Strong interest in careers and volunteering alongside significant document downloads
